Student review
Positive: first year was flexible learning with online and on campus units. Had the option to reduce work load and do a summer unit over T3, which I loved!!! Negatives: 2nd year it all changed. Inflexible, lots of compulsory units on campus, had to drive even further to waurn ponds campus from Melbourne. Felt there were some really irrelevant subjects basically just there to increase your fees and put extra money in the institutions pocket. Throughout the entire degree, I felt the teachers/ lecturers were mostly non engaged or motivating. Seemed sour and unhappy. I always thought your uni teachers would be inspiring but this really feel short at Deakin in my experience. I felt the lecturers were on ego trips most of the time and felt really small and insignificant as a mature aged uni student. All my placements were hours away from where I lived and over the 6 years of my studies not once did they ever really go out of there ways to find placements in or near Melbourne. So be prepared to have to travel FAR FAR away to complete the exhausting 1000 hours of placement. I’m so glad I finished this course but nearly didn’t make it because of of isolated and unsupported I felt throughout the entire degree.

I thoroughly enjoyed my 4 years studying occupational therapy at Deakin University. The placements taught me so many practical skills and since graduating I've been able to secure an occupational therapy position.
