Electrical Engineering focuses on electrical and electronic devices and systems, computer systems, telecommunications, control and electrical power engineering. Electrical engineers play a vital role in renewable energy generation, heavy industry and manufacturing installations, robotics and automation, mining and electrical power distribution. Students will study a common first year allowing them to learn more about engineering and its different fields before deciding which discipline to study. The common first year provides students with sound fundamentals in mathematics, statistics, physics, chemistry, computing, engineering science and communication, mechanics, materials and fluids. Students then focus on their chosen major study from second year.
